St. Peter’s Religious Education program "Family Faith Formation" provides spiritual guidance and teaches our families to become disciples of Jesus. Through our teachings we prepare the youth to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion in 2nd grade and Confirmation in 8th grade, and continue to strengthen their faith as they journey into young adulthood. Family Faith Formation classes are offered one Wednesday a month from September to May for parents and children in Kindergarten thru 8th Grade.
Family Faith Formation is a program that equips parents to pass on a well-formed Catholic faith, fulfilling their role as primary educators of their children. The process is two-fold in its presentation, both in church and at home, and it is offered for children grades Kindergarten through 8th grade, along with their parents.
The first step in the process is meeting at Church once a month, nine times a year on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 pm. The Family Faith Formation program follows the three-year liturgical cycle, is driven by Scripture, is theologically sound, and references the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Students are taught a grade-appropriate lesson in a classroom setting with a "substitute catechist" allowing parents to meet separately and be formed in their faith. Parents begin their session in church with praise and worship, followed by an opening prayer. Parents then hear a presentation on the same topic as the students.
During the in-church session, parents also receive an overview of the upcoming in home lessons, which are the second step in the formation process. Parents receive information and guidance on how to present in-home lessons for the coming weeks until the next in-church session. In-home sessions are designed to take approximately one hour each week.
Each month, a Faith Carry Out Box Delivery volunteer will deliver family packets to those registered in the program. These boxes will contain the monthly in-home lessons and any materials needed for the lessons.
